NEW CHANGES FOR 2014:
• U10 Division will be added
• U12 will be earn berths to enter the
USBC North Pointe Junior Gold Championships in Buffalo, NY (July 2014)

Welcome to the 2013 California Pepsi USBC Youth Championships. USBC is revamping their long-time format in the Pepsi Youth Bowling Championships with new age divisions and all scratch competition. Four divisions for both boys and girls will now be offered — U8, U12, U15 and U20 (8 total). Previously, Pepsi had divisions for 11–under handicap and 12-up handicap or scratch divisions. *NEW* CALIFORNIA IS ADDING TO THIS NEW FORMAT AND WILL BE RUNNING A HANDICAP DIVISION ALONG WITH THESE NEW AGE DIVISIONS FOR 2013. This will allow new bowlers a chance to earn scholarships at the District Finals and at the State Finals. After 3 rounds of qualifying, we want to see both new bowlers and scratch bowlers have a chance to earn awards.

The timelines of this event will remain the same. There are two league-level qualifying periods – NOVEMBER 3-16, 2012 and JANUARY 12-25, 2013 (two-weeks each). Please contact your District Director if your league has a bye during this period. We can allow a shift in your qualifying dates either one week earlier or one week later.

LEAGUE LEVEL (Nov/Jan):
All qualifying will be scratch and will be based on the bowler's date of birth.
U8 Boys and Girls with birthdates from 8/1/04 or later
U12 Boys and Girls with birthdates from 8/1/00 — 7/31/04
U15 Boys and Girls with birthdates from 8/1/97 — 7/31/00
U20 Boys and Girls with birthdates from 8/1/92 — 7/31/97

DISTRICT FINALS (March):

  • The U8 and U12 divisions will earn scholarships at the District Finals (1:8 Ratio)

  • NEW! U8 and U12 District Finals Champions can earn a FREE entry into the 2013 Youth State Championships in July (4 Champions x 8 Districts = 32 entries).

  • NEW! California will be offering a handicap scholarship division per the same age divisions – automatic entry for everyone.

  • The U15 & U20 District Finals first place finishers will earn a $50 Scholarship award. Those divisions are also competing to qualify to the State Finals to be held May 4-5 at Classic Bowl (1:4 Ratio)

STATE FINALS (May):

  • State Finalists (U15 & U20 divisions) are competing for state scholarships and four berths into the 2013 North Pointe Junior Gold Championships to be held July 13-19, 2013 in Detroit, MI.

  • NEW! CALIFORNIA WILL BE OFFERING AN OPTIONAL HANDICAP SCHOLARSHIP DIVISION AT THE STATE FINALS.

  • The California USBC Association will provide the U15 and U20 Champions a travel stipend valued up to $400.

For the 13th year in a row, www.BowlersParadise.com will be sponsoring this event along with www.EliteBowling.com. Also each pro shop in the eight hosting Pepsi District Finals will be donating a bowling ball for our fundraising raffle at each site. These sponsors have donated items at both the District and State Finals sites to help us raise more scholarship dollars. Please THANK them for their generous contributions by shopping at their establishments!

Thank you for your support and participation in one of the largest scholarship events in California. Last year we worked extremely hard with your help in raising funds so that we could award $40,000 in scholarships! With the rising cost of education, this tournament strongly benefits many young bowlers on their way to a promising future.

California has an outstanding history at the International finals. Since 1983, California has had over 20 top four finishers totaling over $50,000 in scholarships. This proves that many of the top youth bowlers in this country are right here from California.

CALIFORNIA PEPSI CHAMPIONSHIPS FORMAT

LEAGUE LEVEL QUALIFYING:  The Pepsi USBC Youth Championships begins with league level qualifying. Bowling centers with certified USBC Youth leagues are automatic free qualifying sites. Qualifying is held for two-week periods in November and January based on a ratio of 1:2 per division. DIVISIONS ARE BASED ON THE PARTICIPANT’S AGE:

  • BOYS U8, U12, U15 AND U20 DIVISIONS

  • GIRLS U8, U12, U15, AND U20 DIVISIONS

Bowlers can opt to move up in division, but must sign a waiver to do so at the league level qualifying level.

DISTRICT FINALS (March):  California is divided into eight (8) Districts based on location and local USBC associations. Each district runs their own District Finals. One-time fee based on division. A minimum of ONE (1) in every TWO (2) entries per division will advance from League competition to the District Finals. Format: 3 games scratch bowled on the same pair of lanes. Scholarships are awarded to the U8 and U12 divisions based on a ratio of at least one (1) in eight (8) – these divisions do not advance to the State Finals. First place finishers in the U15 and U20 divisions will earn a $50 scholarship and are also competing to qualify to the Pepsi State Finals. See tournament packet for District site locations, format, fees and District Director contact information.

  • NEW! U8 and U12 Champions can earn a FREE entry into the 2013 Youth State Championships in July (4 Champions x 8 Districts = 32 entries).

  • NEW! California will be offering a handicap scholarship division per the same age divisions – automatic entry for everyone (100% of 210)

STATE FINALS (May):  Bowlers in the U15 and U20 divisions will advance from the District Finals to the State Finals based on a ratio of at least ONE (1) FOR EVERY FOUR (4) ENTRIES, or major fraction thereof, including last place ties per division. BOWLERS MUST REGISTER THEIR SQUAD TIME IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE. Format: 6 games scratch moving pairs after each game. The top four bowlers in each division will qualify to the *Stepladder Roll-off held after the last squad on Sunday. The roll-off determines Pepsi Champions, scholarship placement and Junior Gold berth winners per division. Scholarships will be awarded based on a ratio of at least one (1) for every eight (8) for bowlers per division. A minimum of $400 will be awarded for 1st place.

  • NEW! California will be offering an OPTIONAL handicap scholarship division (100% of 210)

*STEPLADDER FINALS: The #4 seeded finalist will bowl one game against the #3 seeded finalist. The winner will then bowl one game against the #2 seeded finalist. The winner of that match will then bowl one game against the top seeded finalist for the championship.

USBC NORTH POINTE JUNIOR GOLD CHAMPIONSHIPS - U15 & U20 DIVISIONS ONLY:  The CA Pepsi Youth Bowling Championships offers four FREE berths into the 2013 North Pointe Junior Gold Championships. The top finishers in the U15 & U20 divisions may receive the berth if they have not previously qualified. If they already qualified, then the next available alternate will be taken in order of finish per division. All advancers must be Junior Gold program members or be eligible and purchase membership prior to the championships. Bowlers without a current Junior Gold membership must purchase a Junior Gold membership prior to July 1. USBC will waive the $200 (U20) & $150 (U15) entry fee for these athletes. All U.S. citizens are vying for a spot on USBC Junior Team USA to represent the United States in national and international competition. The California USBC Association will provide the U15 & U20 Champions a travel stipend valued up to $400. Arrangements will be made by each athlete within stated guidelines and parameters from the California USBC Association.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS - U8 & U12 DIVISIONS ONLY:  The District Finals U8 and U12 division Champions (32 total) will earn a single entry ($70 value) into all four (4) events of the California Youth State Championships to be held in July.  This berth is applicable only to the first and second place finishers and will be voided if they cannot attend or do not enter with a full team entry ($280).

Event format: Team, Doubles, Singles and All-Events based on 5 average divisions with optional scratch scholarships for the A & B divisions. Ancillary scratch scholarship events also held in conjunction with the State Tournament: Queens & Masters, Prince & Princess, Dukes & Duchess & Coaches Relief events are held at the team center every Saturday night at 6:30pm.
