$50,000 in Scholarships Awarded for 2018!

Welcome to the 2019 California Pepsi USBC Youth Championships. Click on the image to the right to download the 2019 California Pepsi League Level Handbook (pdf). Tournament packets with specific District information will be mailed to each center before the end of October. To date, the Pepsi Youth Championships nationwide has awarded more than $6 million in scholarships — it is estimated that at least $500,000 in scholarships will be awarded nationwide this season alone. By conducting the league level competition you are giving your bowlers an opportunity to help finance their college education. California awarded $50,000 in scholarships last year and has awarded over $953,801 since 1998.

For the 19th year in a row, www.BowlersParadise.com will be sponsoring this event along with www.EliteBowling.com. Also each pro shop/center in the eight hosting Pepsi District Finals will be donating a bowling ball for our fundraising raffle at each site to help us raise more scholarship dollars. Please visit these businesses and THANK them for their generous contributions by shopping at their establishments!

Thank you for your support and participation in one of the largest scholarship events in California.  Last year we worked extremely hard with your help in raising funds so that we could award $50,000 in scholarships!  With the rising cost of education, this tournament strongly benefits many young bowlers on their way to a promising future.  Good luck and we'll see you out on the lanes!

California has an outstanding history at the Pepsi International finals. From 1983-2008,
California has had over 20 top four finishers totaling over $60,000 in scholarships.
This proves that many of the top youth bowlers in this country are right here from California!

California had three national USBC Junior Gold Champions in 2018 (Wesley Low, Jr U20 Div, Solomon Salama U15 Div and Jennifer Loredo U15 Div) and one national USBC Junior Gold Champion in 2018 (Katelyn Abigania U12 Div).

California awarded over $953,801 in scholarships since 1998.

CALIFORNIA PEPSI CHAMPIONSHIPS FORMAT

LEAGUE LEVEL QUALIFYING:  The Pepsi USBC Youth Championships begins with league level qualifying. Bowling centers with certified USBC Youth leagues are automatic free qualifying sites. Qualifying is held for two-week periods in November and January. A minimum of ONE (1) in every TWO (2) entries per division will advance from League competition to the District Finals.  All qualifying throughout the Championships are based on SCRATCH SCORES.

DIVISIONS ARE BASED ON THE PARTICIPANT’S AGE:
– BOYS U8, U10, U12, U15, U17 & U20 DIVISIONS
– GIRLS U8, U10, U12, U15, U17 & U20 DIVISIONS

Bowlers can opt to move up in division, but must sign a waiver to do so at the league level qualifying level.

DISTRICT FINALS (March):  California is divided into eight (8) Districts based on location and local USBC associations. Each district runs their own District Finals. One-time fee based on division. FORMAT: 3 games bowled on the same pair of lanes. Scratch and Handicap scholarships are awarded to U8 & U10 divisions – these divisions do not advance to the State Finals. First place scratch finishers in the U12, U15, U17 and U20 divisions will earn a $50 scholarship and are also competing to qualify (scratch) to the Pepsi State Finals. See tournament packet for District site locations, format, fees and District Director contact information.

  • Champions from the U8 & U10 divisions can earn a FREE entry into the Youth State Championships in July (4 Champions x 8 Districts = 32 entries).

  • California offers a separate handicap scholarship division per the same age divisions – automatic entry for everyone (100% of 210)

STATE FINALS - U12, U15, U17 & U20 DIVISIONS (May):  Bowlers will advance from the District Finals (scratch) to the State Finals based on a ratio (see rules). BOWLERS MUST REGISTER THEIR SQUAD TIME IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE. FORMAT: 6 games scratch moving pairs after each game. Scratch and Optional Handicap (100% of 210) Scholarships will be awarded in each division.

USBC JUNIOR GOLD CHAMPIONSHIPS - U12, U15, U17 & U20 DIVISIONS ONLY (July): California is allotted EIGHT FREE berths into the Junior Gold Championships (one per division). The top finishers in the U12, U15, U17 & U20 divisions (scratch) may receive the berth if they have not previously qualified. If they already qualified, then the next available alternate will be taken in order of finish per division. All advancers must have Junior Gold membership. Bowlers without a current Junior Gold membership must purchase a Junior Gold membership prior to June 8. IBC Youth will waive the $200 (U20 & U17), $150 (U15), and $100 (U12) entry fee for these athletes. These athletes will compete for additional scholarships available to all athletes at the Junior Gold Championships, as well as other prizes and awards. All US citizens are vying for a spot on USBC Junior Team USA to represent the US in national and international competition. If the U12, U15, U17 or U20 Division Champion is unwilling to become a Junior Gold member, they will not advance to the Junior Gold Championships. However, the athlete will still retain the state/zone scholarship, but the berth to the Junior Gold Championships will be awarded to the next eligible athlete. The California USBC Association will provide the eight CHAMPIONS a travel stipend valued up to $400. Arrangements will be made by each athlete within stated guidelines and parameters from the California USBC Association.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS - U8 & U10 DIVISIONS ONLY (July)The District Finals U8 & U10 division (scratch) Champions (32 total) will earn a single entry ($80 value) into all four (4) events of the California Youth State Championships to be held in July.  This berth is applicable only to the first place finishers and will be voided if they cannot attend or do not enter with a full team entry ($320). Event format: Team, Doubles, Singles and All-Events (scratch) based on average divisions. Ancillary scholarship events also held in conjunction with the State Tournament: Queens & Masters, Prince & Princess & Coaches Relief events are held every Saturday night. Visit the Youth Championships page for more information.
