Welcome
to the 2010 California Pepsi USBC Youth Championships. Pepsi
tournament packets have been mailed to all bowling centers with
youth programs. The
full tournament league level handbook is available online only
(click on the image to the right). The two league level qualifying
windows are NOVEMBER 7-20, 2009 & JANUARY 16-29,
2010. If your youth league session conflicts with these
dates because of a league bye, contact your District Director
for permission to move your qualifying window one week before or
one week after. Every youth bowler should be given their
FREE chance to qualify. (Only USBC certified leagues and
youths are eligible to participate).
The Pepsi Championships will be
conducted in six (6) divisions: Boys’ 11-under Handicap, Girls’
11-under Handicap, Boys’ 12-up Handicap, Girls’ 12-up Handicap,
Boys’ 12-up Scratch and Girls’ 12-up Scratch. The 11-under division
will earn scholarships at the District Finals (March 2010) and the
12-up division will earn scholarships at the State Finals (May
1-2, 2010 at FOUNTAIN BOWL in FOUNTAIN VALLEY)
as well as vying for berths into either the USBC USA Jr.
Gold National Finals (Scratch division only) or the CUSBC
California State Youth Championships (Handicap division only).
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
-
The first place winners and runners-up of the 12-up Girls
and Boys Scratch divisions will advance to the 2010 USBC Jr.
Gold Championships held July 10-16, 2010 in Indianapolis,
IN. All four bowlers will receive a travel stipend from the
CUSBC.

and Boys Handicap divisions will earn a single entry ($70
value) into all four (4) events of the 2010 California Youth
State Championships to be held July 2010 in North San Diego
Co.
NEW!
The first place finishers in the 12-up Scratch and Handicap
divisions at the District Finals will receive a $50
scholarship instead of the commemorative watch and
certificate given in the past.
For the 10th year in a row,
www.BowlersParadise.com will be sponsoring this event along
with www.EliteBowling.com, Brunswick, Pin Point
Bowling Concepts (located inside AMF Beverly Bowl),
NorthStar Pro Shop (located inside AMF Orchard Lanes),
Pacific Coast Pro Shop (located inside Canoga Park Bowl),
Bowlers Corner Pro Shop (located inside Chaparral Lanes),
Bowler’s Advantage Pro Shop (located inside Vista
Entertainment Center), and Lane 37 Pro Shop (located
inside Delta Bowl). These sponsors have donated items for our
fundraising raffle at the District and State finals sites to
help us raise more scholarship dollars. Please support these
sponsors and help us THANK them for their generous
contributions!
Thank you for
your support and participation in one of the largest scholarship
events in California. Last year we worked extremely hard with your
help in raising funds so that we could award $70,000 in
scholarships! With the rising cost of education, this tournament
strongly benefits many young bowlers on their way to a promising
future.

Please
email the chairman if
you have any questions about this event or about
Pepsi scholarships.
California has
an outstanding history at the International
finals. Since 1983, California has had over 20
top four finishers totaling over $50,000 in
scholarships. This proves that many of
the top youth bowlers in this country are right
here from California.

PEPSI CHAMPIONSHIPS FORMAT
BRIEF QUALIFYING
OUTLINE:
Center level qualifying is based on a ratio of 1:3 with
bowlers competing within six divisions: 11-Under
Boys & Girls; 12-Up Handicap Boys &
Girls; and 12-Up Scratch Boys & Girls from their home
certified youth league.
(No Pre-Bowled or Post-Bowled scores can be used.) Bowlers
that qualify from their center to the district finals will bowl
3 games in March at
the District Level Finals in their respective
District. (Districts are based on their home
bowling center location in the state). The 11-Under division will compete
for scholarships only at this District
Level. The 12-Up divisions will compete at
the District Level and will qualify based on the
1:5 ratio to the State Finals. First place
finishers in the 12-Up divisions at the District
level will be awarded with commemorative
watches and certificates for their outstanding
performance. Scholarships for the 12-Up
divisions are awarded only at the State Finals.
STATE FINALS: The format of the
State Finals is six games of qualifying with the
overall final top 4 bowlers (total pins plus handicap) entering the
stepladder finals for each division (16 total bowlers). The
stepladder finals will determine scholarship
placement as well as who our representatives will
be entering the national finals. All
fundraising held at the state finals goes
directly into the 12-Up scholarship fund.
SCHOLARSHIP BREAKDOWNS: The 11-Under Division's
scholarships will be distributed after the State
Finals. Their results will be included in
the State Finals results book which will be
mailed to each bowling center and local association. All
scholarship winners are mailed a scholarship
certificate and letter of congratulations. |
