2018 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

CYC AWARDS 2018 SCHOLARSHIP to
DAVID CARPENTER and DAVID WAYBRIGHT

 

MATTHEW CARPENTER from San Diego is following in his sister’s footsteps in winning this scholarship award.  Matthew is a senior at Torrey Pines High School with a 3.5 GPA and bowls at Mira Mesa Lanes. He has participated in 10 local Association Championships and has been bowling league for 14 years now. He has a high game of 298 and a high series of 727.  In 2016, Matthew tied for first place the U20 Division at the Pepsi Youth Bowling Championships State Finals.  Matthew’s activities outside of bowling are performing in the Torrey Pines High School drum line; Torrey Pines High School pep band; Torrey Pines High School Wind Ensemble (1st chair Bassoon) and volunteering with the Toys Tots.  Matthew will be studying Business at Baker University in Kansas this fall.  He will be joining their inaugural boy’s bowling team.

DAVID WAYBRIGHT from Bakersfield has been bowling league for 8 years and doesn’t miss any California USBC youth tournaments.  Bowling has become a passion for David and last year joined the California USBC Youth Committee and then was elected as 2nd Vice President on the main board of directors. David’s interests outside of bowling include volunteer help with Conquer Chiari Walk Across America; Chiari and Syringomyelia Foundation; Ronald McDonald House; Community Theater; High School Football Manager/Stats Keeper and playing baseball. In the fall, David will attend community college getting his radiology tech certificate and then continuing on to Fresno State to join their bowling team.
