The Bowlers to Veterans Link Hospitals and Presentations Report
The California Bowlers to Veterans (BVL) Committee met in October 2008 in Sacramento to review the requests from the California Veteran’s facilities. The financial report was presented.
On behalf of the bowlers in California, the BVL Committee has donated the amount of $106,700 to the following Veterans Centers in California. A donation of $20.000 was made to the National BVL Program. The California BVL Fund has donated over $8,306,735.19 to our California Veterans. We want to thank all of you for your continued support of the California BVL.
2008 California USBC Helen Duval Veterans Tournament
Country Club Bowl, San Rafael – May 3, 2008
We have completed all of the donations for this year and hope many of you will have a chance to visit a facility in your area. After meeting and talking with the Directors and Team Leaders, we know how proud they are of their facilities and they would all welcome your visit.
The following is the breakdown of the donations:
$10,000 | VA Northern California Healthcare System – (includes outpatient clinics in Martinez, Fairfield, Mare Island, Oakland, Redding, Chico and McClellan) to provide an outreach program for the Women clinic, the community, entertainment and recreation activities, National Veterans games, and provide community outings such as bowling. |
$5,000 | VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System – (includes outpatient clinics in Sepulveda, Downtown, LAAC, Bakersfield and Santa Barbara) Flat screen TV’s with mounts. |
$1,500 | Los Angles Veterans Resource Center – Thanksgiving and Christmas parties, bus tokens, field trips and refreshments for the veterans. |
$1,500 | Concord Veterans Center – Refreshments, holiday parties, veterans outreach program which includes bowling and softball. |
$1,300 | Fresno Veterans Center – Holiday outreach program and bus travel. |
$2,000 | Peninsula Veterans Center – Holiday party, refreshments. |
$500 | San Jose Veterans Center – Refreshments and coffee machine. |
$1,300 | San Marcos Veterans Center – Recreational activities and bus passes. |
$1,500 | West Los Angeles Veterans Center – Holiday parties, excursion trips and refreshments. |
$8,000 | Jerry L. Pettis Memorial VA Medical Center –(includes Palm Desert, Blythe, Sun City, Victorville and Upland VA Clinics) Recreation activities and therapy such as the National Wheelchair Games, Golden Age Games, Winter Sports Clinic and Creative Arts Festival. |
$5,000 | VA Long Beach Healthcare System – Women’s program, bus tokens and phone cards. |
$6,000 | VA San Diego Healthcare System – Recreation off-site outings to help all patients including Spinal Cord injury patients, develop skill levels for leisure actives. |
$7,000 | San Francisco VA Medical Center – Camping experience for the blind. Bowling fund, recreation activities, Golden Age games and outpatient fitness/wellness program. |
$1,400 | Anaheim Veterans Center – Bus passes, gift cards, outreach activities. |
$1,800 | Redwood Veterans Center – Coffee supplies and retreats. |
$500 | North Bay Veterans Center – Holiday parties. |
$1,500 | Oakland Veterans Center – Coffee supplies and holiday parties. |
$1,600 | Corona Veterans Center – Holiday parties & family care baskets. |
$1,300 | Sacramento Veterans Center – Holiday party, hygiene kits, and bowling activities. |
$1,400 | San Bernardino Veterans Center – Holiday party, gift cards. |
$1,200 | Santa Cruz Veterans Center – Annual Veterans Day and Memorial Day events, rehab BBQ, holiday party, and homeless Veterans Event in May. |
$2,500 | Veterans Home of California – Barstow – Golden Age games, bowling equipment and participation in Calico days parade. |
$8,000 | Veterans Home of California – Yountville – Bus trips for outside activities, improve ball park entry area and provide tables & chairs in concession area for Geriatric patients. |
$5,000 | Veterans Home of California – Chula Vista –Golden Age Games, various activities both on and off campus, hobby supplies and computer lab equipment. |
$10,000 | VA Palo Alto Healthcare System – Flat screen TV’s and mounting brackets for the new Community Living Center. |
$6,000 | VA Central California Healthcare System – Party supplies, bowling activities, community outings, crafts and Golden Age games. |
$2,000 | Naval Medical Center – San Diego – Emergency fund for transportation. |
$1,300 | San Francisco Veterans Center – Hygiene kits for the homeless, holiday parties and Veterans day events. |
$1,000 | San Diego Veterans Center – Specials outings and events. |
$1,400 | East Los Angeles Vet Center – Holiday parties, coffee fund, Healthy Lifestyle picnics. |
$3,000 | California Bowling Writers– Phone Cards for the soldiers to use for the holidays. |
$3,000 | USO – Ontario, LAX, and Palm Springs Airports – Miscellaneous supplies for traveling veterans. |
$1,000 | Modesto Vet Center – Bowling, Hygiene Kits and Holiday party. |
$1,200 | CUSBC BVL – Promotional Carpet Bowling Lane Kits to be sent to our Service Personal |
$20,000 | National BVL Program |
