2025 Hall of Fame Inductee
RAY VALDOVINO
Ray Valdovino was born in Sacramento, Calif., on January 3, 1958. He lived in a small community along the Sacramento River called Courtland where his father managed a 150 acre pear farm. Ray has 4 brothers and 2 sisters, and they all worked on the pear farm while growing up.
In the evenings, Ray’s father would bowl in many of the top scratch leagues in the area and counted Don Bickford, Chuck Sisk, Randy Oliver, and also John and Palmer Fallgren as teammates over the years. Ray would tag along and keep score for his father’s team, and that’s how he was introduced to the game.
Ray worked for the State of California for 37 years as a Systems Software Specialist, where he was in charge of designing and installing local area networks, as well as designing and installing electronic phone systems. He and wife Donna will celebrate 38 years of marriage on August 30, 2025. They have one daughter, Lindsey, who is 31 years old.
Valdovino’s accomplishments on the lanes are memorable, with a high league average of 234, a total of 31 sanctioned 300 games and also 31 sanctioned series of 800 or more, while competing as a USBC member for the past 50 years. His best year on the PBA Tour came in 1988, when he qualified for the top spot in the televised finals at Earl Anthony’s Dublin Bowl in Northern California.
In addition to Ray’s 300 and 800-plus scores on the lanes, he is most proud of the following accomplishments:
- USBC California Open Championship (2023) – 1st Place Scratch Doubles
- String of 48 consecutive 600-plus series in the same league (2004-2006)
- PBA Western Region Pat Patterson Award (1992)
- Silver Dollar Classic Champion (1991) – $10,000
- PBA Western Region Title at Saratoga Lanes (1990)
Valdovino has found time to operate Ray’s Pro Shop for the past 49 years. He has coached and mentored many bowlers who have gone on to compete at a high level in both youth and adult competition. Ray’s new source of excitement in the sport is watching those he works with succeed as a result of his coaching.
Award was presented at the CUSBC Awards Dinner on May 31, 2025 at the Hilton Garden Inn Airport, San Jose.
