CYC AWARDS TWO $500 SCHOLARSHIPS for 2014

The CUSBC CYC has selected two youth bowlers for 2014.  In the female category, MORGAN E. CUNNEEN of Vista, is a 17-year old certified youth league member at AMF Eagle Lanes, in San Marcos.  Over a four year span, Cunneen has maintained a 100% participation in league attendance. She has participated in Local and State Championship Tournaments, is a Local Association Officer/Director; a member of her Local Association Youth Leader/Youth Committee; and during the six years of league play, an Officer/Director; as well as a Youth Leader at the League Level. Over the past three years Cunneen has managed to increase her skills to average 148;  recording high games/series 201/507, 203/515, and 213/520.

Cunneen who lived in Germany and speaks fluent German is in her senior year at Mission Vista High School in Oceanside.  She is considered by her Instructors as a model student in that she is self-disciplined, articulate, has strong character and shows great maturity in being polite, and treats classmates with respect. She in turn, is afforded respect.  To date, she earns straight A’s, in all her classes; maintains a GPA of 4.40; and is ranked 4th in her class of 260 students.  Cunneen has been a member of the California Scholarship Federation since 2012, a member of the Mission Vista High School Key Club and Interact Club and off campus activities include Aegs Living/Dance at Shadowridge, Vista Library Service Learner and Rotary Club/YMCA Annual Holiday Dinner.   Cunneen is currently taking Advanced Placement Environmental Science classes to familiarize herself with the content of that area of study in two of the two universities she has her eye on… UC Berkeley and UC Davis.

In the male category, CHARLES J. SANDFER, age 19 of Twentynine Palms is a graduate from Twentynine Palms High School where he was highly regarded by his teachers.  Sandfer was one of the original students in the school’s AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program, where he was training to become a Tutor. He expressed his willingness to work in groups and did it with a good predisposition making sure to take care of his responsibilities within the group at all times.  During his four years at T.P.H.S., Sandfer participated as a member of the Interact Club, a community-based club.  In his Senior Year, because of his high intellectual ability and responsible attitude, Sandfer began working as a Tutor for the Avid Class, where he always excelled by being firm and patient with the AVID students, showing his willingness to help them in any way possible.  Following his graduation from T.P.H.S. in 2012, Sandfer enrolled in Copper Mountain College in Joshua Tree and seeks his degree in General Education.  Although he continued to tutor for the AVID program, on a paid basis, Sandfer has maintained excellent grades.  He reached the highest academic honor at C.M.C.  making the President’s List in (Fall) 2012;  (Spring) 2013 and Honor’s List (Fall) 2013.

Sandfer is a certified USBC youth member of the Citrus Belt USBC Association and has for 12 years participated in the youth program at Bowlium Lanes in Montclair. He is a 167 average bowler, recording a 610 high series; has bowled three State Championship Tournaments and twelve Local Association Championship Tournaments and from 2009 through 2012 maintained a 100% attendance record at league play.

In spite of all these accomplishments at the same time, Sandfer continues his volunteer service to the Breaking Bread Ministry (Feed The Hungry) and assists in the Pioneer Days Parade lineup.
