This year our Convention and annual meeting was modified to a one day event trying to keep costs down for the local associations in sending their delegates.

The USBC Jamboree was held in the morning. Jarrod Gallegos from USBC talked through his presentations with updates regarding lane certifications, BVL donations (California USBC was second highest in donations for 2023-24 with $95,119.45) and the new option starting August 1st of being able to purchase multiple memberships online at BOWL.com.

We provided a luncheon for all of the delegates. Despites a late start with the food setup, we were finally able to start the event with our presentation of the 2025 California Youth State $1,000 Scholarship to Shin Gabriel Sangalang from Dublin. Shin didn’t know that we were turning the presentation into a press conference. The guests were able to ask him different questions about his bowling history, equipment and plans for the future.  It was quite fun. (The other youth scholarship winners are from Southern California and were not able to attend the luncheon).

In the afternoon, we held our annual meeting.  The meeting was our annual updates on our event and tournaments.  Most reports are posted above. There were no by-law changes so the only legislation was our elections of three incumbant Directors: Don Way, Brett Kociemba and Linda Stewart.  All were approved by acclamation. Lynn Matsubara and Tom Leigh were also approved to be Delegates for the 2026 USBC Convention in Reno.

Our awards dinner was held later that evening.  We honored five Hall of Fame inductees, three for Superior Performance (Regina Aboud, Bonnie Garber and Ray Valdovino) and two for Professional Performance (Wayne Garber and Larry Laub). It was a very festive group as all of the inductees (excluding Larry Laub who was not able to attend) were old friends who bowled together. It was a nice reunion for them. We will have a video soon that will be posted on youtube.com.

YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS:

STAR OF TOMORROW $2,500 SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
Jai Kankariya – Diamond Bar, CA
Aaron Calica – Panorama, CA

CALIFORNIA STATE YOUTH $1,000 SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
Lindsay Greim – Poway, CA
Shin Sangalang – Dublin, CA

The Hall of Fame dinner was a lively group as all of the inductees are friends and have bowled together for many, many years! We will have a video soon to publish for everyone to enjoy.  The stories were amazing and the raffle winners were the highlight of the night!
