STEPHANIE HONG and RYLAND PIMENTEL SELECTED AS 2024 STAR OF TOMORROW WINNERS

RYLAND PIMENTEL from San Diego began bowling in the fall of 2011. Inspired to bowl by his two older cousins who found success bowling in Texas. Within a couple seasons he began bowling Pepsi tournaments and banner tournaments. This led to bowling in the Junior Bowlers’ Tour and the Junior Amateurs’ Tour where he has won a few titles. In addition to local circuits, Ryland attends national tournaments such as Storm Youth Championships and the Cityview Youth Open. He continues to stay active in league and competitive bowling. Beyond bowling his interests in school include playing the saxophone. He’s involved in jazz, wind , marching, and pep ensembles. He is also very active within school organizations that do community outreach. These organizations such as the California Scholarship Federation and Bayanihan have fostered a strong sense of giving back and support towards the local community. He is a graduating senior, and has maintained above a 4.0 GPA throughout high school. He’ll be attending San Diego State University in the fall majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He hopes to continue competitive bowling while attending college. Ryland currently bowls out of Parkway bowl, he would like to thank the staff and coaches for their support. He’d also like to thank his family, especially his parents, his Auntie Jen and Uncle Guy and coach Josh Modelo for their tireless efforts and support throughout the years. He’d like to graciously thank CalUSBC for the opportunity to be the 2024 Star of Tomorrow recipient.


STEPHANIE HONG SELECTED AS 2024 STAR OF TOMORROW WINNER

Stephanie Hong is a senior at Buena Park High School and has demonstrated the mantra that hard work yields results. She picked up the sport in 2018 at the age of 12,

posting a 111 average in the winter then 137 in the summer of her first season. Fast forward four seasons and she’s now averaging in the 180s and has racked up titles on both the JBT and JAT tours. She also has a Las Vegas Youth Bowlers tour title and was a 2022 U18 Girls Pepsi State Champion.

Off the lanes, Stephanie volunteers with several organizations such as the VA in Long Beach where she helps deliver food to patients and writes thank you letters to veterans.

She also volunteers as a virtual tutor, helping other students with homework during lunch and after school. She is involved with the National Unification Council of the Republic of Korea where she hopes to inspire peace on the Korean Peninsula.

She has served in several leadership roles in school all while carrying a 4.5 GPA which is 10th out of 398 students. Stephanie was recruited by Vanderbilt University while she will be attending in the fall and will join their bowling team.


Awards were presented at the CUSBC Awards Dinner on June 10, 2023 at Hotel Piccadilly in Fresno.
