5th Annual California Women’s Bowling Championships
It’s official! The California USBC’s 5th Annual Women’s State Championships has begun. For the next six weeks, this major event will be hosted by Tyme To Bowl Lanes in Oroville located at the Gold Country Casino and Nu Generation Lanes in Yuba City. There will be over 2,000 bowlers coming from all over California competing in teams of four, and also a doubles competition being held at Nu GenerationBowl. The theme for this year’s championships is breast cancer awareness in remembrance of Susan G. Komen. Larry Campbell, the general manager of “Tyme To Bowl” pulled out all the stops in promoting the awareness campaign as he and staff member Ed White wore pink shirts as well as having the center beautifully decorated with pink balloons and floral arrangements all provided by The Wishing Corner of Gridley.
The opening ceremony began with the color guard’s presentation of the flag. Immediately following the presentation, the participants and staff were treated to a moving tribute honoring the men and women serving in our armed forces. John Cooke produced the DVD which featured scenes of Oroville and the surrounding area.
CUSBC President, Al Hoffmann introduced several distinguished guests in attendance, which included the Oroville Mayor Steve Jernigan, Gold Country Casino’s General Manager Jack Fisher, Chamber Of Commerce’s Chris Robbins, and Helen Stinson General Manager of Nu Generation Bowl.
